Six CPI(M) supporters convicted for murder


A fast track court today convicted six CPI(M) supporters, including a gram pradhan for murdering six persons at Rampur village in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district in 1982.

Fast Track First Court judge, Siddhartha Mukherjee convicted the six including Satya Biswas, currently gram panchayat pradhan, Manindra Nath Ray, Chiranjit Sarkar, Barun Dey Sarkar, Sisir Ghosh and Bholanath Mandal under sections 148, (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) 364 (kidnapping or abducting to murder) and 302 (murder) of IPC.

He will anounce the quantum of sentence tomorrow.

According to the prosecution CPI-M supporters took out an armed procession at Rampur of Baxirhat in Tufanganj sub-division on June 12, 1982 in the morning.

The six victims - Santosh Dey Sarkar (32), Achhimuddin Sheikh (35), Nirod Barman (30), Sharat Barman (33), Sunil Barman (30) and Chhaimuddin Sheikh (38) were dragged in front of the CPI-M office at Rampur market, tortured brutally and killed.
